Endometriosis: Can the Low FODMAP Diet help? The latest research…
A top medical team from Australia are just finalising their research on whether the Low FODMAP Diet can help women with endometriosis?
Many women with endometriosis also experience GI symptoms similar to those of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Current treatments often don't address these GI issues effectively, so many women try dietary changes, like the low FODMAP diet, to find relief.
What the Study Did
Purpose: To see if a low FODMAP diet can help women with endometriosis manage their GI symptoms.
Method: A 12-week randomised controlled study with 34 women who had endometriosis and significant GI symptoms. They followed two different diets: one low in FODMAPs and a regular diet for comparison.
Key Findings
Women on the low FODMAP diet had significantly fewer GI symptoms.
They reported less abdominal pain and bloating.
Quality of life improved, and stress levels decreased.
Stool form was more normal on the low FODMAP diet.
Conclusion
A low FODMAP diet can significantly reduce GI symptoms in women with endometriosis, improving their overall well-being. This study supports findings from an earlier study in 2017 showing 72% of women with both endometriosis and IBS reported over a 50% improvement in bowel symptoms with the low FODMAP diet.
